InvisalignFor patients who feel self-conscious about dawning the metallic look that comes with traditional braces, there is another option, which is simultaneously more aesthetically pleasing and comfortable – Invisalign.

The Treatment

Invisalign is a teeth-straightening orthodontic treatment that utilizes a system of clear, custom-made aligners for moving teeth into the correct position. These aligners are made from a flexible plastic, causing them to be more comfortable. Additionally, their clear nature makes them virtually invisible. As a result, you will not only have the benefit of feeling better, but looking better than you might while wearing traditional braces.

Invisalign Can Treat:

  • Overly crowded teeth
  • Widely spaced teeth
  • Crossbites
  • Overbites
  • Underbites

How Does Treatment work?

At the start of your orthodontic journey with Invisalign, your orthodontist will use Invisalign's advanced technology to have a series of clear aligners custom-made to guide your teeth into the proper position. You will wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, 24 hours a day (with the exception of when you are eating, drinking, flossing, or brushing your teeth). As you move through the different sets of aligners (usually 18 to 30 of them), your teeth will gradually shift into the right place – creating that straight smile you’ve always wanted.

Total treatment time usually last somewhere between 6 – 15 months, and requires visits to either our Orlando or Winter Park, FL office every 8 – 10 weeks.

Bonus Benefits

Past the benefit of not having metallic wires or brackets crowding your mouth, there are a few other pluses to be highlighted when considering Invisalign for your orthodontic treatment.

As Invisalign aligners are removable, they allow you the freedom to eat whatever you want. Unlike with traditional braces, you can still enjoy things like ribs or corn-on-the-cob by simply removing the aligners prior to eating. You can also remove your aligners to brush and floss your teeth (making oral/dental hygiene easier), and for certain special social occasions and pictures too.

Invisalign Teen vs. Traditional Invisalign

There are three key differences between Invisalign Teen and traditional Invisalign treatment. The first is that Invisalign Teen aligners have a “Blue Dot Indicator,” which shows how long each set of aligners has been worn – allowing you, your parents, and your orthodontist to be aware of this vital factor. Second, Invisalign Teen comes with six free replacement aligners in case some get lost or are broken. Finally, Invisalign Teen aligners are designed to accommodate for mouths that are still growing.

Invisalign - Questions & Answers

Q. How often must I wear my invisalign aligners?

A. You must wear your invisalign aligners at least 22 hours daily. You may remove them for eating, drinking and regular oral hygiene.

Q. Are there any restrictions to what I can eat while in treatment?

A. No. Unlike braces, you may eat whatever you like as long as you remove your invisalign aligners before eating. Prior to placing the aligners back on, it is important to brush your teeth and the aligners after you eat.

Q. Will wearing the aligners affect my speech?

A. Like any orthodontic treatment, there is a short adjustment period with invisalign. The more you speak with the aligners on, the quicker you will adjust.

Q. Is there any discomfort with Invisalign® treatment?

A. There will be some pressure and minor discomfort for a day or two after each initial insertion. This is a sign that your teeth are moving sequentially into their final position.

Q. Can I chew gum?

A. We recommend that you remove your invisalign aligners prior to chewing gum, as it will stick to the aligners.

Q. Can I smoke with the aligners in?

A. We discourage smoking while wearing invisalign aligners as the cigarette smoke will tend to discolor them.

Q. How do I keep my invisalign aligners clean?

A. Brushing your aligners with toothpaste will keep them fresh and clean.

Q. How often do I see an orthodontist while wearing Invisalign®?

A. Regular office visits are every five to six weeks. This will ensure that your Invisalign treatment is progressing as planned.

Q. What happens after my invisalign treatment is complete? Do I need retainers?

A. All orthodontic patients are instructed to wear their retainers at night indefinitely. Sleeping with your retainers in at night will ensure a healthy bite and maintain the new position of your teeth.

Q. How long does Invisalign treatment take?

A. Invisalign treatment time varies depending on the severity of the misaligned teeth. Treatment time can be shorter than traditional braces, between six and 18 months.

Q. Does Invisalign work for kids?

A. Yes, if their teeth (including second molars) have grown in completely.
