5 Hygiene Tips To Follow While Using Invisalign

At Dr. Dann Orthodontics, we know how frustrating it is to deal with the issue of crooked or crowded teeth. That’s exactly why we offer an array of treatment options. If you have chosen Invisalign to correct the problem, it’s helpful to know and follow these five hygiene tips while using your new clear aligners.

Always Brush and Floss First

On average, while undergoing Orlando Invisalign treatment, you must keep your aligners in your mouth for at least 20 to 22 hours per day. This ensures that you are getting the most out of your treatment. However, one of the best tips for maintaining good oral hygiene is to brush your teeth and floss daily before putting your aligners in your mouth in the morning. This keeps your Invisalign cleaner and keeps bacteria at bay.

You will also want to at least brush your teeth after every meal. If that’s not an option because you’re out and don’t have a spare toothbrush with you, remove your Invisalign after eating and swish water around your mouth to loosen excess food particles before putting them back in.

Avoid Consuming Anything That Causes Stains

Whether your child is receiving Winter Park Invisalign Teen or you are getting clear aligners, it’s crucial to avoid staining them. You’re free to eat whatever you want while receiving your treatment, but it’s best to avoid any foods or beverages that can stain your teeth; anything from black tea to coffee to acidic fruits to dark sauces can stain your teeth and affect the quality of your Invisalign.

Clean Your Aligners

You should clean your Invisalign aligners daily to keep them as clean and fresh as possible. Avoid using toothpaste, which can cause abrasions. Use a special cleaning solution for Orlando Invisalign treatment or denture cleaner to soak them. Regular cleaning can keep your aligners smelling fresh and eliminate any bacteria buildup that could transfer to your teeth and cause periodontal disease.

Drink More Water

One of the best ways to keep your Winter Park Invisalign teen aligners clean is to drink more water every day. If you’re thirsty and cannot remove your aligners, water is the best option; not only does it quench your thirst, but it is also safe for Invisalign because it won’t leave stains. It may also help flush away excess particles.

Store Them Properly

Whenever you are not wearing your Invisalign aligners, it’s crucial to properly store them. Don’t remove them and place them on a surface such as a table, sink, or counter; this can lead to bacteria buildup that can damage them and cause gum disease. Always place your Invisalign inside the case provided to you by the dental office.
